The Challenge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

For too long, the landscape of genocide and human rights scholarship has been marked by a significant, and often unacknowledged, divide between the Global North and the Global South. This imbalance affects whose voices are heard, whose perspectives are valued, and ultimately, the effectiveness of our understanding and responses to mass atrocities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This Workshop Aims To:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n
\n

* <\/strong>Create a Platform: Provide a dedicated virtual space for scholars from the Global South to articulate the specific challenges they face in having their scholarship and expertise recognized and amplified on a global scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Foster Dialogue: Facilitate open and honest conversations between scholars from both the Global North and Global South to identify concrete strategies for overcoming existing barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Promote Partnership: Explore models for equitable and collaborative research partnerships that prioritize the voices and perspectives of those most directly impacted by genocide and human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Inform Policy: Improve global policy making by ensuring that the Global South perspectives regarding justice and human rights are included in such policies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

* <\/strong>Publishing Barriers: Addressing the obstacles faced by Global South scholars related to academic journal publishing policies, language barriers, and prohibitive fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Centering Voices: Moving beyond tokenistic inclusion to ensure genuine partnership and co-creation of knowledge with Global South scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Challenging Power Dynamics: Examining and dismantling patterns of intellectual “parentification” and the imposition of Westernized frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*<\/strong> Rethinking Justice: Moving past the imposition of Westernized justice standards and considering the different ideas and needs for justice in the Global South.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
